Part B

Earth Geologic Map

You'll find that aside from a few standard features, no two geologic maps are quite the same, with each having different style and substance. Let's continue to learn about geologic maps by answering some questions about the geology of Arizona. This map covers the geology of the entire state of Arizona, and has a slightly different layout than the previous map. It does not have cross sections, but it's unit descriptions are more detailed than the map in Part A.

The state geologic map published by the Arizona Geological Survey in 2000 is a compilation of many smaller geologic maps and represents a major improvement over previous versions(at left). One of the map's compilers, Dr. Steve Reynolds (a legendary Arizona geologist), in the field at South Mountain (right). Historical note - Steve was also Dr. Bob's advisor in grad school at A.S.U.
