Prelude

Our world has a long a fantastic history. In this lab, you will learn how to get answers to interesting questions about Earth's past. The different landscapes shown in Figure 1-1 below are places where geology students visit and explore. To decipher the geologic histories of these and other places, we need an understanding of many basic concepts, including how different rocks and landscapes form over geologic time.
