Part D

Geology of Venus

Unlike Mercury, the geology of Venus is more complex. The surface is not only shrouded by a dense atmosphere, it has several types of geologic features not seen elsewhere in the Solar System. The present surface of Venus is also thought to be relatively young (<800 Ma), which makes it different from Mercury. Thus, the early history of Venus is largely a geologic mystery and the details of its surface have only recently been revealed.
